How to Embed Videos in your WordPress blog, without Screwing it Up?

While writing the post “Is Twitter Lifestyle and Twitter Money worth?“, I wanted to embed a YouTube video into my post. When I tried first, it striped off the video and it appeared bad, like some broken link.

Broken:(

So I searched on Google, “Embedding Videos on WordPress”. As usual, I got a lot of results and even some video results. From the video results I came to understand that it was the WYSIWYG editor or the visual editor in the Post page that screwed up my attempts to embed videos.

Visual Disable

However, I felt that there would be better ways to embed videos rather than enabling and disabling the visual editor.

I turned towards the WordPress plugins, that never lets me down. Whatever work you want to get done, you will definitely find a plugin that suits your need!

And yes there was a plugin, that did just what I wanted. It embedded Videos in a breeze!. It was the “XHTML Embed Videos”. (I am not giving the link or discussing them, because I found a better solution!)

Then I noticed that there was a default embed button in the Kitchen Sink (not of my home, but the Add New Post dashboard)!

And there it was my YouTube Video! (It might look as if it is stripped off, but you can check it by Previewing the post)

Now, I found it a bit difficult to edit the options in the Advanced tab of the Media Embed Option. Say for example the color of the border, the size etc. So how can you have your YouTube Video customized with a color of my choice as seen below.

For that, I customized it in the YouTube website (see picture), copied the code for embedding the video.

Customize Video

Go HTML

Then in wordpress, “Add New Post” page I chose “HTML” instead of “Visual”. Then I pasted the code into the place where I wanted it to appear.

Pasted Code

Pretty much done! In fact, that’s all you have to do to embed your videos in you wordpress post!

So if you have the embed code for the video, which is available in YouTube, Google Videos and Vimeo, use the last method explained. If you have only the Link/URL to the video and nothing else, then use the Embed Media Button in the Kitchen Sink!

Now time for some Music, click on the above embedded YouTube video of Supa Strikas theme. I am sure, you will like it!
