To Blog and What to Blog?

Every answer you seek for the questions you ask, can be found within you. If you fail, then search around you and you shall be satisfied. You will butr soon realise that you had always known the answer.” – The Wise One.

I believe in the above quote. You have the answer to all your questions. You are the answer to all your questions. The reason I write this post is, every time I ask myself, why I fail to write quality post, the above quote inspires me to find the answer. Your blog should represent you, so quit emulating other successful bloggers and define your style. Every one of us have a style. A style you love and many others adore and a few others despise. Instead of worrying about the latter few, please the ones who love you, who love your style of writing and your articles. Soon everyone will love what you write.

technorati

Technorati claims that the blogosphere has millions of bloggers and billions of blogs. But within my friends circle, I find only a hand ful of active blogs and bloggers. I remember to have talked to many of them about blogs and blogging, but it seems that they lost interest, as soon as they started. Pity them.

But I also know of those bloggers who still like to keep their blogs alive, but find themselves out of ideas when they try to write something down. I will tell about what I do. I dream (but don’t talk or walk in sleep). I think of a lot of things everyday. In fact we everyone do that. Some might seem silly, but still they are our thoughts. Cultivate the ability to create articles out of those thoughts, that will interest the people who adore you. You might be think, “I just began blogging. I am not very popular. And I know I write crap. Which fans are you talking about?“. The fans you don’t know about. Those who will become your loyal readers in no time.

Try these out. I am sure you will be having loads of things to write about, by the end of this post.

Whenever you think of something interesting and creative, jot it down somewhere so that you don’t forget about it. A blog post need not run into paragraphs or pages. Even 3 lines will do. But they need to have some content, something the readers can connect to and think about.compaq

You are an avid user of the internet or any other piece of technology? Write about that. Say you are an user of twitter or orkut. Write a tutorial or how-to, that will be helpful to people who are just beginning to use them. Write about your mobile phone, things you have tried out with it. Lighter moments that you relish and cherish.

Admin Block

Are you a student? Write about your school or college. Make sure you don’t provide a carbon copy of whatever is there on the official website to your readers. Be much more specific and provide them with facts and details. Furnish with details like, “Reaching the place“, “Courses offered“, “Popularity” etc. You can read about my college National Institute of Technology, Trichy, here.

Learn to blog about new blogs and websites you visit online. Be it something you came across during your search or if it was recommended by your friend. Right a review about the blog. Telling about how good or bad the posts are, with a link to that blog.

Make it a habit to visit blogs, read content and post ‘valid’ comments. By valid comments, I mean comments that you make genuinely and not like, “Wow, awesome post! Way to go man. Really loved it“. By this you can write about topics that stirred you up.

Read a new book or watched a new movie? Write a honest review about if it is worth spending a buck for the book and movie.

Did you try out something new today? Something like “Opening a bank account or visiting a Blood Donation Camp“. Or write about the formalities and the troubles you had to go through before getting your Driver’s Licence

Do you use Google? Do you use search engines?  Did you get exactly what you wanted? Whatever your answer be, write your own account on the topic.

Learnt something new? Blog about what you learnt and how you learnt.

This is from my other post, Putting Categories to their Best

  • RePosts - I visit so many websites and blogs online. And I find several interesting posts. I (don’t copy paste them) right about the same topic in my own style. I trackback the original post.
  • Responses - When I find posts in blogs that are thought provoking, ask a question etc, then I blog about the question, the thoughts that it provoked. By this I link to the blog with the thought provoking post and invites them to read my response. A popular way to make friends with fellow bloggers.
  • Niche or Interest - Posts about everything else that interests me. The new computer program I wrote, the hack I found interesting, the applet or software that made something easier for me (and also for many others), the new gadget I am finding handy, my discoveries in linux etc.
  • Life or Personal - Posts about what happens in my life. The new friends I met, the places I went, the things and people, who left me pondering about the life I have been gifted with. The philosophies that sprout in my mind during sleep. The small jokes and anectodes in life. A travelogue, stories I hear, etc.

The list doesn’t end here. There are many more and I am still thinking of what to list next. I will keep updating this post with newer ideas. But whatever you blog about, remember one thing. DO NOT blog about something, because it is POPULAR and creates CONTROVERSY. Blog about what you like. Your blog represents yourself on the internet. Write about what interests you and matters most to you. And before pushing the publish button, re-read the post and make sure it is interesting and makes your reader read to the end. Add supportive images and links to other posts and blogs, with relevent information.
