Twitter automatically replaces long links with bit.ly urls
If you are a user of twitter, and have been using it for quite some time then you should have seen this. When you enter a long url and press enter, twitter automatically replaces it with a shortenend url (tweets are only 140 characters). If you are a new user, or a long time user ignorant of this facility (like me
), then familiarise yourself with this feature.
I have been using twitter for more than 6 months now. Whenever I post a tweet regarding some web page I am currently reading, I take the pain of visiting The Tiny Urls webpage, obtain the tiny url for the url of the web page I am reading and then post my tweet. For the benefit of others. What I never tried was to post a url as it is and then click on “Share”.
Discovery By Chance
So when my friend “@rageshgr” was singing praises about the Twitter Fox plugin and add the current url to the tweet feature, I commented saying, “current url is good. could have had replace url by tiny url”. Pat came the reply. “Twitter does that automatically!”. I was shocked. How could I be so ignorant!
Don’t be ignorant like me, friends. Try out every possibility, discover by chance! I took the pain to create the tiny url of a link everytime i wanted to post a long link. It ate my time. I should have known and the url shortenning twitter does.
