System Disabled 05313 : How I reset my Laptop’s Boot Password

I use a boot password for my Laptop (HP Compaq CQ50-115NR). I also use a administrator password for accessing the boot setup. Since the same admin password can be used instead of the boot password, I use it (the administrator password is the master password). So later I had no idea what the boot password was. So when I tried to clear the boot password, I couldn’t do it.

Later during my futile attempts to remove the boot password, I cleared the master password. And unfortunately the boot password did not clear up. Because of this I couldn’t access my laptop using any of the password’s I remembered!

So after every third wrong attempt, the message goes “System Disabled 05313″. I found some solutions online, which promised to get me my master password using the error number “05313″. But the solutions are for a “fee” and I was keen to find a better, quicker and free solution.

The most obvious hack to reset the BIOS password, for desktops was to remove the CMOS battery. But will it work for my laptop? I wasn’t sure, sSo I tried.

SUCCESS!

I first removed the hard disk casing and there I found the CMOS battery. I disconnected the corresponding wire. Also I removed the laptop battery, and after sometime, powered the laptop using AC power. It couldn’t find the CMOS settings and hence didn’t ask for the password. The BIOS settings had got cleared.

After connecting the CMOS battery wire and the Laptop Battery, I powered on the Laptop, and enterend BIOS settings, set the date, time and also the master password. Done. So did you forget your master and boot password? Try this out! It might help!
