Ubuntu Error Beep : Compiz Configuration Hack, to replace the error beep with something aesthetic
I hate it. I don’t know about you, but I believe that the system beep which Ubuntu plays during errors can be safely replaced with better options. It is a real pain in the ear.
Earlier, i used to mute my speakers so that I am not troubled by the nuisance. Now thanks to Compiz, I can replace it with cooler visual effects. All thanks to this post from tombuntu.
You can read about installing and configuring Compiz to spice up your linux here.
As for the Error beep replacement, I used two effects. One was the Shiver property of Wobbling Window effect and the other the Title Effect of Water Effect. I didn’t use the Blur Windows because the blur wasn’t very prominent. Also the Fading Window effect was not used as I had already seen it functioning in my friends computer and wanted mine to be different.
Say goodbye to the painful high decibel system error beep today!
